Fodder scam case: Lalu Prasad Yadav surrenders before Ranchi court

Rashtriya Janata Dal president and fodder scam convict Lalu Prasad Yadav surrendered before a CBI court on Thursday in Ranchi, Jharkhand, upon expiry of his provisional bail. The former Bihar Chief Minister, jailed for corruption last year, had been out on bail since May. “I am unwell but I have faith in the high court verdict,” he said.
After being sent to jail in December last year following conviction in fodder scam cases, Lalu Prasad spent a considerable time at the RIMS hospital in Ranchi and at the AIIMS at New Delhi, for treatment of various ailments. He was also treated at a Mumbai hospital for three weeks and was discharged on 25th August.
The 70-year-old had asked for a three-month extension of his parole saying he needed treatment for anal abscess, kidney stone and enlarged prostate glands. But the Jharkhand High Court rejected it and ordered him to return to jail. Doctors from the Asian Heart Institute in Mumbai would examine Lalu Yadav and inform the court about his condition, his lawyer Prabhat Kumar said after his surrender.
The court also asked the state government to provide medical care to Lalu Yadav whenever needed. Meanwhile, several political leaders visited Lalu in hospital to inquire about his health.
