Navadurga's around Bengaluru

Banglore is surrounded by many hillocks with temples and ruined forts at the peak of the hill, Which has historical importance. Most important and only few of us know the fact that Bengaluru is surrounded by Navadurga’s(Nine Hills) located in outskirts i:e 100km. The 9 hills are Savandurga, Nandidurga (Nandi Hills) Devarayanadurga, Hutridurga, Huliyurdurga Channarayanadurga,Kabbaladurga, Makalidurga and Byaravadurga.

Basically durga in kannada means fort. In these few of them can be reached by vehicle and few of them have to be reached by trek. All of the forts have been surrounded by villages and people living around. The saddest part is that all of the forts are ruined and only left of sculptures and other ruins are present. Recently,I got chance to complete all 9 Durga’s. it will be a small milestone for avid trekker and traveler to climb all 9 Durga’s. I would say if proper measure is taken conserve or to improve the sites, It would be the future travel circuit of Bengaluru. The pin to pin details of each of the forts will be covered in future posts which will include minute details on all the individual forts.

These are heritage sites which are in dire need to be taken care of. if the government recognizes these forts and starts conservation , these forts may soon become one of the most visited places in Bengaluru. Some of the monuments are very unique but its literally in shambles and needs proper attention as soon as possible. each fort is unique and mesmerizing in its own way. They are covered with the history of medieval Bengaluru and has many locations worth tagging as heritage sites. it also reminds us about the fact that how strategically the city was located amidst the grand 9 Durgas. I believe that the government is looking to renovate these Hills similar to the Nandi hills which is the most famous Hill fort of Bangalore. It will also boost economy in the villages these hills are located.

It would be an accomplishment for any traveler cum trekker to scale all the 9 forts.
